What is a Treasurer?

The role of the City Treasurer is to oversee the general financial management of the City. It will be the Treasurer’s duty to plan and keep track of budgets, collect, deposit, and keep track of funds, write checks, and provide financial reports regularly to City Council. The Treasurer will be responsible for the City’s accounting activities, tax management, financial accounting and cost accounting. The Treasurer must employ full transparency in all financial matters and be prepared to answer all budget-related questions. The Treasurer is a leadership role with the City who shall review procedures for expenditures and advise City Council on financial strategy and to manage revenue and financial risks.

Who is Dan Saxton?

Born and raised in Sunbury, I have been directly involved with community service my entire adult life.  And as a former Sunbury City Controller ( more than 11 years ), and as having served as Treasurer for several local organizations, I feel I am uniquely qualified for the position of City Treasurer. I have worked closely with several local CPA’s who have commended me on the efficiency of my financial record-keeping.  The Auditor General’s office of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has performed full audits of my financial records for the Sunbury Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association for the past 6 years and I am proud to say that my audits have been clean, “no findings, no observations”. During a previous tenure as City Controller, I helped streamline the accounting process saving the City thousands of dollars in outsourcing costs.  I want to bring that experience to the Treasurer’s Office.
